Kensignton-Bedford Exchange now open to all Peewee age kids.

2016-10-10 - Peewee A North Stars

There is a meeting tomorrow, tuesday @ 6 pm for all peewee parents interested in the program. The meeting will be held at the kensignton rink.

To: Peewee Parents

Subject: Kensington-Bedford Peewee Hockey Exchange

I am sending out this letter to provide information on the Kensington-Bedford Peewee Hockey Exchange.
This annual event invites all 2nd year Peewee players to participate in the extremely wonderful hockey exchange event.
In the past, this exchange was only available to peewee players registered to KAMHA. Last year, we decided to invite our sister Associations, SSMHA & NSMHA to attend. As an Association, we feel that this opportunity should continue for the players of these other two Associations. So we are officially inviting SSMHA and NSMHA to participate in this exchange again this year.
The exchange takes place the last weekend of January with the Bedford, Quebec teams coming to Kensington first. Our players will host their billets from Bedford in their homes (possibly two, depending on the number of players).
Some of the activities that will take place over the four days are: hockey games, Bedford vs PEI and a Friendship game, where the player plays on the same team as their billet. There is fun-social time which usually includes bubble soccer & mini stick tournament, time to see our cultures and our Island and time for the parents to get to know each other.
In return, the Kensington team then travels to Quebec the last weekend in February.
During this time they will enjoy lots of winter activities including Val Cartier Snow Park. This is usually one of the BIG highlights for both the kids & adults. They then visit the Bell Complex, to watch some of the Montreal Canadiens players practising, including Carey Price, and there they play their first game on the very ice the Canadiens practice on weekly. This bus trip & stay in Quebec brings our team & parents much closer as friends.
From this experience, our children have gained lifelong friendships, participated in one of the longest running hockey exchange in Canada, had the opportunity to bond over their favourite winter sport and the chance to practice another language.
This experience does require fundraising efforts by the parents & team mates. A cold plate take out meal is the #1 Fundraiser. It is usually scheduled for last weekend of November. Other fundraisers can be looked at with the committee.
In the event that there is not enough interest from the second year players, then we will then open it up to our first year players. NO peewee child will be turned down.
There will be a parents meeting in the very near future to see who is interested and to start planning for this year's exchange.
Please consider having your child participate in this wonderful opportunity.
If you have any questions feel free to email us at kensingtonminorhockey@gmail.com.
This year will be the 49th exchange. As we are approaching our 50th year we are looking for interested persons to come on board to help plan for this momentous event.

TOGETHER LET’S KEEP THIS TRADITION GOING 50+ YEARS !!!

Thank you!
